Every year I have the honour of managing our photo contest and I feel very lucky to share this window into the experiences as the photographers saw them. Each submission is a combination of the image and an accompanying global health story giving us a deeper understanding of the message and allowing the artist to further express how this moment impacted them. Now in its eighth year this contest began due to the many beautiful images that the global health community at Dalhousie were sharing with our office. It is with great pleasure that we share the latest submissions with a larger audience.
These outstanding images were taken by Dalhousie faculty, residents and students engaged in global health experiences and his contest addresses the subject of ethical imagery and mindful storytelling.
Each submission is evaluated on the technical aspects of the photo itself such as light, focus and perspective but also on the clarity of the relationship between the image and its intended message.
With thanks to the evaluation committee I a pleased to recognize this year’s winners; second prize goes to Dalhousie student Jonathan Oore for his photo “Perro y Hermanos” and first prize goes to Dr. Ronald George for his image “Overwhelming Joy”. We hope you enjoy these images as much as we do.
We are already looking forward to the 2019 Global Health Photo Contest. We hope you will consider submitting your images. Global Health is all around us, there are many opportunities for inspiring images in our own backyard. Be creative! Think of everything that impacts the health of individuals and communities.
