The Global Health Office is happy to announce the 2012 recipients of the Dr. Jock Murray Award for Resident Leadership in Global Health and the Dr. Ron Stewart Award for Student Leadership in Global Health; Dr. Kevin Calder and Ms. Haley Augustine respectively.
Dr. Calder became involved in Global Health as a medical student working with the Canada African Community Health Alliance in Gabon, Africa. In 2010, as a plastic surgery resident, he expanded his international experience through a surgical mission to Indian with Operation Rainbow Canada. This summer, Dr. Calder will begin a one year international fellowship with Operation Smile which will expand his clinical experience by engaging in outcomes research. Kevin will collaborate with pediatric surgeons from around the world making sustainable contributions to Global Health.
As an Occupational Therapist student at Dalhousie University, Haley participated in Global Health committees as well as an International elective. She is committed to creating awareness and encouraging support for interprofessional global health solutions. She is a member of the Global Health Advocates Program at Dalhousie and has been selected to participate in the 2012 Global Health Summer program in Thailand.
