Nursing Reference Center Trial

The Kellogg Health Sciences Library has arranged a free trial to the Nursing Reference Center. This trial will run until the end of March 2011. To view and explore this resource please follow the link below.

Maritime Medical News Index

An Index to the Maritime Medical News, 1888-1910 is now complete and available on the Dalhousie Libraries website. The content in the Maritime Medical News is a key resource for those interested in or doing research in the history of medicine or health generally in the Maritime Provinces. This index complements the Index to the Nova Scotia Medical Bulletin completed earlier, also found on the Libraries website, so that the medical historian now has a very detailed index to the rich content found in these two publications covering more than a century, from 1888-1993.

These indexes were created largely through the efforts of Rachel Green, a member of the Medical Society of Nova Scotia, under the guidance of Dr. Allan Marble, Chairman of the Medical History Society of Nova Scotia. The project coordinator was Tim Ruggles, Librarian at the Kellogg Health Sciences Library. This project was funded by the Kellogg Health Sciences Library

The content of the full text of the Maritime Medical News is freely available on the web at the Canadiana.org website. A project is currently underway to digitize the content of the Nova Scotia Medical Bulletin.

Rehabilitation Reference Center Acquired

The Kellogg Library has purchased a subscription to Rehabilitation Reference Center. Rehabilitation Reference Center is a clinical reference tool designed for use by rehabilitation clinicians, physical therapists, and occupational therapists at the point of care. It provides valid and relevant information intuitively and conveniently, using the best available evidence to help support clinical decisions.

To access Rehabilitation Reference Center, search it as a “database” in the search box on the Libraries’ homepage or via the Health Sciences Resources page.

New Encyclopedias Acquired

The Kellogg Library has purchased six new online encyclopedias for the health sciences from Elsevier:

  • Comprehensive toxicology, 2nd ed, 2010
  • Encyclopedia of basic epilepsy research, 2010
  • Encyclopedia of behavioral neuroscience, 2010
  • Encyclopedia of the eye, 2010
  • Encyclopedia of microbiology 3rd ed, 2009
  • Encyclopedia of movement disorders, 2010

These may be accessed through our catalogue or via our web page listing encyclopedias in the health sciences.

DynaMed Demonstration

An Ebsco representative will be on hand at the Kellogg Library (main floor) from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 29, 2010 to give brief demonstrations on and information about this product.

The Kellogg Library currently has a free trial of DynaMed which can be accessed by Dalhousie faculty and students.

DynaMed Trial

DynaMed is a clinical reference tool created by physicians for physicians and other health care professionals with clinically-organized summaries for more than 3,200 topics.

Until the end of December, the Kellogg Library is offering a free trial of DynaMed, an evidence-based point-of-care tool chosen by both the Canadian Medical Association and the Canadian Nurses Association for use by their members.

Pharmacist’s Letter Trial

Pharmacist’s Letter is a subscription service for pharmacists covering new developments in drug therapy, and trends in pharmacy practice. Pharmacist’s Letter started in 1985 and currently serves most pharmacists in the United States and Canada.
