Procedures Consult is an online multimedia training and reference solution that helps physicians, medical residents, and students prepare for, perform, and test their knowledge of top medical procedures. BioMed Central is an STM (Science, Technology and Medicine) publisher based on the open access publishing model. The Dalhousie University Libraries has recently become a “Supporting Member” in BioMed Central. For Dal authors who wish to publish in BioMed Central or SpringerOpen journals, this membership allows for a reduction of 15% on the article processing charges (amounting to savings of about $250-$300 per article). Any article submitted from a Dalhousie IP will automatically be provided with the membership reduced rate.
The Kellogg Library has created a web page offering a selection of resources especially formatted for mobile devices. It should be noted, however, that most electronic resources (databases, ejournals, and ebooks) accessible through the Dal Libraries’ website (see our health resources webpage) can be used on the web browsers on your mobile and tablet devices.
As with any of our licensed electronic resources, you will be required to login with your Dalhousie NetID and password if connecting from off-campus. Note that some products may require you to register for personal access by creating your own username and password.
As exam time looms everyone is looking for a quiet corner to study. A quiet study space has been set up just for this purpose in the Kellogg Health Sciences Library. Quiet space has always been a problem in our open plan library so we’ve designated Group Study Room 3/4 on the second floor as a quiet space. The room is available on a first come, first served basis. No Talking, No Cell Phones and No Food, please.

The Kellogg has purchased a large images database called SpringerImages. SpringerImages is a growing collection of scientific images that spans the scientific, technical and medical fields, including high-quality clinical images from images.MD. The continually updated collection – currently over 2.8 million images – gathers photos, graphs, histograms, figures, and tables, and is available to the Dalhousie community via a searchable online database.
Springer allows users to create personal accounts so they can organize and save their images in sets. It allows the sets to be saved to Powerpoint or PDF format. The license allows the images to be used for “educational, personal, scientific, or research purposes, including illustration, explanation, example, comment, criticism, teaching, research or analysis in accordance with these Terms of Use.”

The Kellogg Library has purchased the five volume electronic encyclopedia: Encyclopedia of Environmental Health from Science Direct.
The Encyclopedia of Environmental Health can be found through the Libraries’ online catalogue, in our “Encyclopedias” subject guide or through the direct link provided below.
The Kellogg Library recently purchased the Info-Sci Medical e-book package (about 100 books) from IGI- Global. This collection covers topics in health informatics, health technologies, biotechnology, knowledge management and related subjects. Individual books are being added to our catalogue which is searchable from many pages on the Libraries’ website, or you can access the whole collection from our E-books page. The collection can be browsed or searched.
Connect now to the Info-Sci Medical E-book Collection. This takes you to the IGI Global website. Look for the Info-Sci Medical link on the left side of the screen under “Research Collections.”
