Health and Psychosocial Instruments: HaPI
Health and Psychosocial Instruments (HaPI) is a database that provides access to information on approximately 15,000 measurement instruments (i.e. questionnaires, interview schedules, checklists, coding schemes, rating scales, etc.) in the fields of health and psychosocial sciences. The database covers 1985 to date and is updated quarterly. NOTE: The full-text of the instruments are not included in the database.
PsychiatryOnline
PsychiatryOnline is a web-based portal that features DSM-IV-TR®—the most widely used psychiatric reference in the world. It also provides electronic access to a dozen American Psychiatric Association textbooks, practice guidelines, journals and self-assessment tools, as well as information for patients and families.
Patrick Ellis, Head of the W.K. Kellogg Health Sciences Library and co-chair of a national task force of the Canadian Health Libraries Association (CHLA/ABSC), has received a large grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) for the establishment of a Canadian Virtual Health Library.
It is the aim of a virtual health library to provide high quality medical information as well as training and assistance to health care practitioners across the country.

Looking for statistics on health topics can be a difficult task–especially if you need Canadian data. The Kellogg Health Sciences Library has created a guide on this topic that can get you started and, we hope, headed in the right direction.
The guide features links to resources from a number of NGOs and government agencies at various levels as well as access to a variety of statistics databases.
Looking for data from Nova Scotia? Try the “Community Counts” link where you’ll find data on a number of topics – including health – that can be broken down to such levels as district health authority or health board. If you’re after national data or comparisons among provinces, you might want to try the links to the Canadian census. If you’re looking for a broad overview of a topic, try one of the links to documents such as “Wait times in Canada” or “Economic Burden of Illness: Canada”. CABI has announced free access to its specialist Global Health database – a premier database for public health information.
Global Health is produced by CAB (Commonwealth Agricultural Bureaux) International and is a fully searchable bibliographic database. It contains over 1.2 million scientific records from 1973 to the present day, with over 100,000 records added each year. Information is sourced from more than 5,000 serials, books, book chapters, reports, conference proceedings, patents, theses, electronic publications, and other hard-to-find resources. Over 3,000 of these are unique to Global Health.
To access this database go to www.cabdirect.org/globalhealth. You will also find it listed on the Libraries’ databases search page.
Find a world of reference information at your finger tips with one of our new electronic encyclopedias. Many of these handy tools have been in our paper Reference Collection for years but now we can deliver them to you wherever you are.
