Top Tips for Eating During Exam Time
It’s that time of the semester once again. Long study sessions, running on no sleep, and bottomless coffee. Nutrition quickly falls off the radar when such important priorities are on the list. When it comes to preparing for exams, it’s important to treat them like a mental marathon where endurance is key. Eating the right foods at the right times will alert and energize you through those long study sessions. Your Food Services team have put together some simple tips so you can eat your way to an A!

Welcome!
I’m Rai-Lee Gardiner, the Registered Dietitian with Dalhousie Food Services serving the Halifax campus.
I’m pleased to be here at the Halifax campus dedicated to providing our residence students the tastiest and healthiest dining experience possible. I am especially proud of the efforts we undertake to support those with allergies, intolerances and special diets as much as possible. This is particularly important to me because I live with celiac disease and maintain a gluten free diet.
I work with the food services team in a variety of ways, including making sure the information available to you around the food we serve is accurate, and helping food services innovate and push boundaries to be more sustainable and environmentally friendly — while being fresh, healthy, and delicious! I also help lead our teams in our health and safety plans and practices in these unique times and help us adjust to changing pandemic protocols.

Dehydration then can cause dry skin, fatigue and weakness, increased body temperature, muscle cramping, headaches, nausea and dry mucous membranes (mouth, nose, eyes). Low water levels put stress on the body as many metabolic reactions need those H2O molecules as a medium. [Read more…]
Setting realistic goals + Get the Good Stuff
Welcome to a new term, a new year, and a new decade! You might be tempted with so many fresh beginnings right now to set up some “new years resolutions”. Reflecting on yourself, your lifestyle, and your habits and identifying things you’d like to change can be a good thing. Make sure you are setting yourself up for success by carefully considering before you commit to a goal. If you choose a goal that is too difficult to maintain, or isn’t addressing the issue, you’ll end up giving up after a few weeks and feel frustrated and demoralized.
