Health Guidelines around public spaces, especially those that serve food, have continued to shift dramatically over the course of the pandemic as knowledge, capacity, and epidemiology has changed. With that have also come a variety of other volatile changes to labour, food supply chain, and many other aspects of society and economy. March Local Food Day
It’s our priority to provide students with and introduce them to the local food on their plates. In March, our second Local Food Day of the semester celebrated two local Atlantic farms, den Haan Greenhouses and Valley Mushrooms, who we source produce from year-round.
Practicing Mindful Eating
March is Nutrition Month and this year’s theme is “Good for YOU! Dietitians Help You Find Your Healthy”. The focus is for dietitians to help you find your healthy as healthy eating looks different for everyone.
Therefore, there is no better time to chat about mindful eating! If you are new to the concept, we will explore what mindful eating is, tips for implementing mindfulness, and the benefits. In fact, Canada’s food guide suggests practicing mindful eating habits as an essential component to maintaining a balanced lifestyle since healthy eating is more than the foods you eat.

Milk versus plant-based beverages, it’s quite the trendy topic these days! It may feel overwhelming as there seems to be a new milk alternative on the market regularly – so how do you decide which is best for you? People choose milk alternatives for diverse reasons – allergies, intolerances, personal preferences, concerns regarding their environmental impact, or ethical reasons.

Local Food Day: Root Vegetables
A year has passed since we welcomed Mark Sawler from Sawler Gardens Ltd. in the dining halls to teach us about carrots and their farming practices. As we source various other root vegetables from Mark’s farm as well (whenever they are in season), Mark re-joined us virtually to talk all things root vegetables.

You asked and we listened! Chilled coffee is now being served at both dining halls.
You will find fruit at every station to make sure you don’t have to wait in line if you only wanted to grab an apple but certain stations are lined up – also, grapes have made a comeback!
