With the recent addition of the No Dairy icon to our identifiers, we now have 8 that we add on to different menu items. Some icons can’t ever be paired together (for example: a dish can’t have Sustainable Seafood in it AND be Vegan). Many dishes we serve qualify to have multiple icons on them. In an effort to balance and not overload people with too much on our signs, we do have some guidelines on why we choose to put an icon on some things and not others. [Read more…]

Making the most of dining hall
Let’s go over some tips from breakfast to dinner on how to make the most of your dining hall experience.
October Food Survey
Thank you for filling out the dining satisfaction survey in October. Based on your feedback, we have made a number of changes in the dining halls to better serve you!
Welcome!
I’m Rai-Lee Gardiner, the Registered Dietitian with Dalhousie Food Services serving the Halifax campus.
I’m pleased to be here at the Halifax campus dedicated to providing our residence students the tastiest and healthiest dining experience possible. I am especially proud of the efforts we undertake to support those with allergies, intolerances and special diets as much as possible. This is particularly important to me because I live with celiac disease and maintain a gluten free diet.
I work with the food services team in a variety of ways, including making sure the information available to you around the food we serve is accurate, and helping food services innovate and push boundaries to be more sustainable and environmentally friendly — while being fresh, healthy, and delicious! I also help lead our teams in our health and safety plans and practices in these unique times and help us adjust to changing pandemic protocols.
Dining Safe @ Dal
Your dining experience on campus is different this year, but we’ve worked hard to make sure we kept the variety, quality, and tastiness that you would experience in any other year.
Your Immune System & Eating for COVID-19

- different fruits and vegetables,
- high quality proteins,
- and whole grains.
Eating for your Mental Health
Feeling a bit down at this point in the cold dark winter? While eating patterns don’t reduce the importance of speaking to health professionals, nutrition can have an impact on your mental health. Considering what’s regularly on your plate could help give you more energy, focus, and reduce depressive symptoms.
For years the world has been talking about how your diet impacts your risk of developing certain health conditions like diabetes, heart disease, etc. But emerging research is finding that the food we eat has physical and biochemical impacts on our mental health as well. [Read more…]
Food Hack: Taco Salad
Have you noticed we have corn tortilla chips at the deli now? I think they’d add a great crunch to a salad since we keep away from croutons (some of our severe allergy folks thank you!). Might as well lean in and get a Tex-Mex theme going on! [Read more…]
