Killam Welcomes Mary Wong
We are very pleased to welcome Mary Wong as our new Killam Library Circulation/Stack Maintenance Assistant. Mary began working here on March 10.
Originally from Hong Kong, Mary grew up and went to high school in Amherst, Nova Scotia, and moved to Halifax in 2005. She graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Urban Geography. She also has an Honours Bachelor of Community Design (2008) degree from Dalhousie’s School of Planning and a Library and Information Technician Diploma from Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology, Toronto.
Mary comes to us with extensive library experience. She has worked at the centre for Creative Communications at Centennial College in Toronto, the Toronto Public Library System, and in elementary and high school libraries with the York Catholic District School Board in Markham. More recently she worked at Dalhousie’s Faculty of Architecture and Planning Resource Centre and at the Sexton Design & Technology Library as a student assistant.
Mary says she’s looking forward to new challenges and to working at Killam. We look forward to working with you too Mary!
Welcome Jan and Charles!
The Killam Library welcomes new staff members Jan Pelley and Charles Tourneur to our Circulation Dept. Jan began working here full time at the beginning of September, and Charles in mid-October as a fulltime temp until next August. Both are recent graduates of the NSCC with Diplomas in Library and Information Technology, and say they’re enjoying putting their skills to practical use. It’s a pleasure to see your smiling faces behind that Circ Desk, Jan and Charles!
Mick Bottom Appointed LC Tech Lead
We’re very happy to announce that, having successfully completed his 6-month probation, Mick Bottom is now officially the Learning Commons Technical Lead. Mick says:
“I am very pleased to have passed my probationary period. The past six months seem to have flown by and I have enjoyed every minute. I think the Killam Library is a fantastic place to be and there is also a fantastic group of people within it. I feel honoured to be part of that team.
The Learning Commons is already a terrific resource for students and more enhancements to the user experience are on the way in the coming months – watch this space!”
