Make course-related articles and book chapters available electronically to your students! The Dalhousie Libraries are offering faculty an option to have links to licensed e-content added to their reading lists and uploaded to BbLearn or Brightspace (for the Faculties of Agriculture, Management (CFAME), Architecture and Planning and Health Professions [Social Work programs] ) by one of the Dal Libraries’ staff, with copyright clearance obtained if possible.
You can do this online via the Reserve page on our website.
And that’s it! Once you’ve submitted your list, Libraries’ staff will create persistent URLs for electronic items and post the list to BbLearn or Brightspace for you.
A note of caution: Some publishers limit the number of readers who can use an ebook at the same time. This publisher-controlled limitation can make ebooks challenging to use as textbooks. Before adding one of the Libraries’ ebooks to your syllabus, check with your library liaison who can work with the Libraries’ Resources team to determine if a particular ebook will meet your needs. Not sure who your library liaison is? Check this list: http://util.library.dal.ca/Subspecialists/
We work with paper as well! We’ll seek copyright clearance for print material—articles and book chapters—through our Copyright Services Coordinator and then scan and upload the items into BbLearn or Brightspace. If we’re not able to obtain copyright clearance, the material will be placed on Reserve at the Service Point/Circulation Desk of your selected library and you will be notified of this change.
By offering this service the Libraries are hoping to build new partnerships with faculty, meet the students where they are, and provide quick and reliable access to library resources. We also hope you find it useful!
Note: Please allow at least 2 weeks for your reading lists to be processed. Lists are processed in the order in which they are received. For further information or to get started, please contact:
On August 14, eTherapeutics/eCPS will switch over to RxTx, a new robust and intuitive product with a powerful search engine that gives you the drug and therapeutic information you need in fewer steps.
The switchover means you’ll see RxTx when you first login. You’ll still be able to access the older interface by clicking on the link in the bottom banner. Please note that the publisher has provided a link to a survey in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
If you haven’t tried RxTx, we encourage you to do so before the switchover date. You can also register for the RxTx Product Overview webinar. Attend this live, interactive product tour on August 11th, 12th or 13th to familiarize yourself with the new interface.
The link resolver SFX (The Get it@Dal button) will be unavailable on Sunday 19 July 2015 while Ex Libris migrates it to a newer, more modern data center. In order to retrieve an article you need during this time, you can use Novanet Classic or Primo to search the name of the journal and click through to the journal homepage. From there you can navigate to the required article.
On Monday and Tuesday SFX will be “view only” while the reconfiguration takes place. Users should not be affected by this change but staff will not be able to make any updates to the SFX database. After that, Ex Libris will make the switch to go Live with SFX on the new environment. Our SFX BaseURL will not change when we are moved to the new environment.
The W.K. Kellogg Health Sciences Library will be on the move in just a few months.
Starting this coming December, after exams are over, here’s a timeline of what you can expect.
In December 2015, the Kellogg Library will close for the move to Chapter House. During this time, a small service desk will be available in the lobby or the Link.
In January 2016, a brand-new, permanent space, the Kellogg Library Learning Commons will open on the second floor of the Collaborative Health Education Building (CHEB). This exciting new space will be where you will have access to technology, IT assistance, Document Delivery, some quick reference services from library staff and a staffed service desk. The Kellogg Library Learning Commons will also offer many productive study spaces (individual, small group and bookable group study rooms). There will be seating for 300+.
Also in January 2016, the Kellogg Library will move into to Chapter House (5743 University Ave) while renovations take place on the main floor of the Tupper building. At Chapter House, you will have access to the collection and in-depth reference assistance from librarians. There will also be some study spaces where the print collection and some services will be located.
During this time, many reserve readings will be converted into electronic form so that they are accessible anywhere. For those materials that cannot be made accessible electronically a print reserve will most likely be held in the Kellogg Library Learning Commons until the Kellogg Library moves back to the Tupper Building.
In September 2016, the Kellogg Library moves back to the Tupper building, and will then be located on the first floor. The Kellogg will then have two distinct sites: The Kellogg Library (main floor Tupper Building) and the Kellogg Library Learning Commons (2nd floor CHEB).
Staff will be available to answer reference and research questions during all phases of the moves, at both locations.
