Hi folks! My name is Jessie Bach and I am the Post-Grad Archives Intern at the Dalhousie University Archives and Special Collections. I’m a recent graduate of Dalhousie’s School of Information Management, and an all-around book-worm and history nerd. Needless to say, I love working in the Archives!

Here at DUASC, I‘ll spend the next few months working with various literary collections. I am currently working on processing the records of the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia. This is a local, non-profit organization, established in 1975, that “fosters creative writing and the profession of writing in the Province of Nova Scotia.” You can take a look through their current website.

This exciting collection gives insights into the operation of the publishing industry in Atlantic Canada, the state of arts and culture in Canada during the late 20th century, the struggle of a charitable arts organization to keep afloat, the craft of creative writing, and much more. The Writers’ Federation Archives also features materials from some of Nova Scotia’s most famous writers including Lesley Choyce, Alistair MacLeod, Silver Donald Cameron, and Helen Creighton. Come on up to the Special Collections Reading Room on the 5th floor of the Killam Library to take a look at this fascinating bit of local literary history!
