Candidates for the position of Instruction/Liaison Librarian: Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick have been invited to make a presentation to the Dalhousie community on the following topic:

“New technologies have created opportunities for librarians to connect with users in more effective ways.  But adapting educational programs to support learners and faculty while leveraging the power of these technologies can be a challenge” 

They will comment on this statement and illustrate how they could enhance the Library’s distributed medical and health professions educational program with technology (give a minimum of 3 possibilities).

Display Issues with Some EBSCO eBooks

We are currently experiencing display problems with some EBSCO ebooks in certain browsers. Firefox appears to be the browser that exhibits the most problems. If your EBSCO ebook does not display properly, please try using Chrome, Safari or IE.

Research Bootcamp

Do you have Research Assistants (RAs) responsible for doing literature searches, citation management, or other work in support of research? Do you have Teaching Assistants (TAs) responsible for assisting students with finding information for their research papers? The Research Bootcamp offered by the Dalhousie Libraries may be just the thing to firm up their research skills. The objective of the Bootcamp is to develop and/or refresh the literature searching and information management abilities of research assistants, teaching assistants, and graduate students.

The Bootcamp starts off with Core Skills Sessions, which are applicable to all participants. From there, your RAs and TAs can customize their suite of workshops by choosing from a selection of discipline-specific literature searching workshops and information management skills workshops to best address their needs and the work with which they will be involved. This year we have added sessions in partnership with Dalhousie’s Writing Centre and other sessions based on feedback from last year.

Register your students for the Core Skills and customized Subject Searching and Information Management sessions. Registration will remain open until April 28. Visit http://dal.ca.libguides.com/ResearchBootcamp for all the details, and select the “Registration” tab to sign up.

An introduction to Open Educational Resources / Open Textbooks (webinar)

The Dal Libraries and the Centre for Learning & Teaching (CLT) have organized an introductory webinar about Open Educational Resources / Open Textbooks. It will be held on Friday, March 18  at 12 p.m. in the Killam Library, room B400 (in the basement). Problems with EBSCOhost databases RESOLVED

Update: The problem has been resolved. (Thursday, March 9, 8:58 a.m.)

You may encounter problems if you are using the Get it @Dal button today to access any EBSCOhost databases. You may get the error message: “A System Problem has Occurred. We’re sorry, your request could not be processed due an internal server error. To continue with your session, please click here.”

We apologize for the inconvenience and we’ll let you know here when it’s resolved. Ebsco is working to resolve this problem.
