The Dalhousie University CLA student chapter is pleased to announce that it has been yet another successful and eventful year for their Professional Mentoring Program (PMP).
The PMP program pairs School of Information Management students with professionals in the field in hopes that students may glean advice and guidance from their more experienced colleagues and that both parties might build rewarding relationships to be developed in the years to come.

Nominations are now being accpted for this year’s SIMSA Outstanding Service Award (deadline: Monday, March 15th).
The Outstanding Service Award is awarded by SIMSA to a graduating student who has made outstanding contributions to student life by giving time to extra-curricular activities, helping others with technology, making thoughtful contributions in the classroom, and demonstrating an ability to be a team player.
The presentation of this award is made during our reception immediately prior to the Convocation Ceremony on Tuesday May 31, 2011.

The 2011 Information without Borders conference at Dalhousie University was held on February 3rd. Dr. Peggy Cunningham, the Dean at the Faculty of Management, opened by pointing out the need for new models in management that can overcome the common symptom of paralysis of analysis. These models must be capable of analyzing massive quantities of information, synthesizing and making it usable.
Congratulations to Naomi Balla-Boudreau and Deidre O’Reilly, the winners of this year’s IWB poster competition. Their poster focused on their research on early childhood literacy programs in Canada.

It’s time again for another “Death by Chocolate” sale and fundraiser for the Special Libraries Association chapter at Dalhousie. It’s going to be held February 14, Rowe Atrium, starting at 9:00 and ending around 1:00 depending on what’s left and if we’re still alive! (Yes, I used that phrase last year too)
We welcome ALL donations–please bring them up to the Common Room after 8:00 a.m. if you can. Otherwise you can always drop off in the Atrium.

On Wednesday, March 2, Dalhousie Writer-in-Residence, Anne Simpson, will give a creative writing workshop in the Dalhousie Art Gallery to celebrate the current exhibition: Betty Goodwin: Darkness and Memory. Because of the scope of Goodwin?s innovative, often transcendent, work, the exhibition lends itself to exploration in other art forms. Participants in the workshop will be given a brief tour of the works, and then Anne will engage them in writing short pieces of prose or poetry.

Nicole Dixon, second year MLIS student, has had a poster accepted to be presented at APLA in May; she is also presenting her poster at today’s IWB conference. Sea Stacks: Contemporary Atlantic Canadian books for children and teens is supervised by Dr. Vivian Howard (supervising professor/principal investigator) and Dr. Keith Lawson.
