Norbert Addo is a familiar face at the Help Desk in the Killam Library. He first started working there in the fall of 2014. Back then, Norbert was a student and worked as a navigator, providing IT assistance to students and faculty alike.
Norbert came to Halifax in 2012 after completing his undergraduate degree in Ghana. He has since graduated from Dal with his of Masters of Applied Computer Science. Soon after, he was offered a six-month term position as a Help Desk technician. When the job was posted as a permanent position in 2016, he was thrilled to be the successful candidate.
“I was so relieved when I got the news. I really like working at the Help Desk. If I hadn’t gotten this job, I would have had to move, which would have been life-changing,” said Norbert.
Norbert performs many tasks in the run of a day, such as assisting people with their Microsoft accounts, Internet and wifi problems, net ID issues, large-format printing, software downloads, and software related problems. “3D printing and designing 3D models is my favourite part of the job. I also enjoy helping people to solve their problems and to see the satisfaction they get when they know their computer is ok,” he said.
