Successful Mock Interview Demonstration
“It is rare, illuminating and, most importantly, valuable experience to be able to see how others behave under the pressure of an interview.” –Alan Chorney, Past Interviewee
Ever wondered what your competition said or did that landed them the job? The MLIS Mock Interview Demonstration offers students the exceptional possibility to learn just that. Since 2010, students in the Master of Library and Information Studies program join Management Career Services (MCS) for this event to develop their interview skills, learn from their peers, and get advice from experts in the field.
In this experiential learning opportunity, students present their interviewing skills to mock interviewers in front of a live audience, providing students the opportunity to observe live interviews and learn what it takes to be successful. The Mock Interview Demonstration holds a vast amount of valuable feedback that both participating candidates and spectators can use in their own job searches. Check out these comments from participants:
- “Participating in the panel interview in front of everyone was scary, but the feedback I received was invaluable and I would absolutely do it again!” –Nicole Bloudoff, Interviewee
- “It was incredibly helpful to hear from real professionals in the LIS field and gain their perspective, so that I can prepare for future interviews knowing their expectations and the behavioural attributes they look for.” –Kallen Rutledge
- “This event was a great way to receive positive encouragement and to receive feedback with the intention of ironing out some flaws.” –Marc Harper, Interviewee
- “Watching my classmates undergo the mock interview yesterday gave me a strong sense of the kinds of answers I would give to interview questions in the future, which is invaluable knowledge. I wish I had participated.” –James Ross
- “The session allowed me to step outside myself and see the areas in my interview demeanour that I needed to work on, expand and ameliorate.” –Mark Black, Interviewee
