Hello Everyone,
It appears from our evaluations and student comments that the first PPD, “Making Career Connections” was very well received and kudos to the first year students who far outnumbered the second year students! Where were all the second years?
Yes, I used that uncomfortable word – NETWORKING! There, I said it. I hope the students are able to realize the importance of having a network and to make a promise to start building their own network. Email me if you have questions on the topic and I hope everyone in attendance will put their gift to good use.
I have to give very special thanks to my guest, Tanja Harrison. Tanja is a Dal MLIS alum and currently is with NSCAD University. Our demonstration of how to perform an informational interview went extremely well and Tanja enjoyed joining in with some great advice before we did the demonstration. We even did a sample phone call request (did we look funny talking with our hand up to our ear – let me know at the next workshop).
Finally, it was wonderful to see students engaged with Tanja after the event! Bravo to anyone who wanted to know more and took the opportunity to spend a few minutes to speak with her. You have started networking!
Looking forward to seeing more of you at the next Career Development PPD – Resumes for IM Professionals on October 27. Register for the workshop via myCareer.
