Oxford Bibliographies Online Trial

The Dal Libraries are running a 30-day free trial of Oxford Bibliographies Online (OBO). Trial ends July 27, 2011.

Oxford Bibliographies Online is a new research tool for the social sciences and humanities. A scholar-curated library of discipline-based subject modules, OBO is designed to help busy researchers find reliable sources of information quickly by directing you to exactly the right chapter, book, website, archive, or data set you need.

Each entry is a selective guided tour through the key literature on topics ranging from Atlantic History through Public Health to Victorian Literature. All citations are linked through to our collection via OpenURL, full-text via DOIs, or to the web via links to OCLC, WorldCat, and Google Books, allowing you to locate quickly full-text content directly from OBO.

Oxford Bibliographies Online Trial Extended

The Dal Libraries’ trial access to Oxford Bibliographies Online has been extended to January 31, 2011. Please note this resource is available on campus only.

Oxford Bibliographies Online (OBO) is an entirely new module-based research tool for the social sciences and humanities. It’s designed to help busy researchers find reliable sources of information in half the time by directing you to exactly the right chapter, book, website, archive, or data set you need.

OBO a great starting point for organizing your research plan, or for preparing a writing assignment or syllabus. The style and approach is accessible to students, but the depth of coverage makes it of great use to faculty as well. All citations are linked through to the Dal Libraries’ collection via OpenURL, full-text via DOIs, or to the web via links to OCLC, WorldCat, and Google Books, allowing you to locate quickly full-text content directly from OBO.

Periodicals Archive Online: Expanded Holdings

We’ve added two major collections to our current holdings of Periodicals Archive Online, a major archive that makes the fulltext backfiles of periodicals in the humanities and social sciences available electronically. PAO currently contains over 600 journals, providing access to over 3 million articles.

Wiley Online Library on the Way

Over the weekend of August 7-8, Wiley will be launching Wiley Online Library, which is intended to completely replace Wiley Interscience. There will be a brief period between the removal of Wiley Interscience on Saturday and the installation of the new platform on Sunday. During this transition period, users will see a message explaining the reason for the unavailability and will be directed to this interim page for more details: wileyonlinelibrary.com/info

Wiley Online Library will host the world’s broadest and deepest multidisciplinary collection of online resources covering life, health and physical sciences, social science and the humanities. Among the features and benefits of the new online service are:

Taylor & Francis Ebooks: Trial Access

The Libraries have been granted trial access to the entire Taylor & Francis Electronic Book (eBook) Catalogue. Please note this trial is available via on-campus access only.

Taylor & Francis publishes broadly in the social sciences, sciences, and humanities. Imprints include Routledge, Taylor & Francis, Europa, Garland Science, RoutledgeFalmer, Gordon & Breach, Harwood Academic, CRC Press, Frank Cass and BIOS Scientific Publishers. Subjects include Economics, Finance, Business and Industry, with new e-collections in Development Studies, Studies in European Political Science, China, and Globalization.

Past Masters Humanities Series

The Dalhousie Libraries now subscribe to the full suite of the Intelex Past Masters series of full-text humanities databases. InteLex assembles and publishes cohesive collections of excellent editions of the greatest authors from Abelard to Yeats, in both original language and English translation.
