What brought you to the MLIS program at Dal? Some strange magical force drew me to the program that I still haven’t figured out to this day. The summer before the last year in of my undergrad I was digitizing microfilm in a library for a historian, and then one day I found myself searching “library grad schools” in Google. It was very serendipitous.
What drew you to the internship at the Dal Libraries? Initially, I came to the program with an interest in archives and had never even heard of health science libraries. The first time someone mentioned it in class I was so excited and aware; my interest in it snowballed. First, I start searching more about health science libraries, then decided I wanted to do my practicum at the IWK health sciences library. Hearing about health science information at IWB’s conference, I took the Health Science Literature and Info Sources course, and in the end I knew I wanted to apply for the Kellogg Internship. There is just something so exciting about knowing you can make a difference in someone’s health/life from the information that you find. I knew it was going to be a fantastic opportunity after what I had heard from the librarians and past interns.
Your educational background: I was born and raised on PEI, and completed my BA in History at UPEI.
What you’ve been doing during your internship: Here at the Kellogg I have been doing a lot of literature searching for outside organizations lately. Also, I have been working on the Kellogg Spaces video, which informs patrons of our upcoming move coming up back into the permanent Tupper space. I have edited libguides, worked the circulation desk, and answered reference questions. Right now I am working on training modules for the navigators at our library who have to know basic circulation tasks, and also I will be working on the Health Statistic libguide.
Fun and interesting facts about you: I am an avid knitter. I love cats and hope they someday rule the world. I don’t like seafood so I have been disowned by the maritimes. I’m learning calligraphy.
