Starting December 2015, the W. K. Kellogg Health Sciences Library will be going through some big changes. In planning for these changes, the Dalhousie University Libraries are working closely with Facilities Management to ensure that any disruptions to our users are minimal.
Here’s what’s changing:
- In December 2015, the collection and the library staff will be moving out of the Tupper Building and into a temporary quarters. We are temporarily moving to allow for some major renovations to take place in the Tupper space. We expect we will be in our temporary home with the collection until September 2016. You will come to this location to access the collection and to have in-depth reference assistance from librarians.
- Also in December 2015, a brand-new, permanent space of the Kellogg Library will open in the CHEB (currently under construction). CHEB stands for Collaborative Health Education Building. This exciting new space will be an information common, where you will be able to access technology, IT assistance, Document Delivery, study spaces, and some quick reference services from library staff. There will be a staffed service desk in this location.
- Then, in September 2016, we are scheduled to return to the main level of the Tupper location with our collection. The second floor that used to house stacks and group study rooms will then be where the Schools of Health Administration and Human Communication Disorders will live. The main level of the Tupper is where office meetings with librarians for in-depth reference assistance will take place, as well as access to the collection in new, compact shelving.
The information commons space in the CHEB is where you will continue to go for access to technology, IT support, Document Delivery, study spaces, and quick reference services. Other functions of the Kellogg Library that will be returning to the Tupper location in September 2016 include acquisitions, cataloguing, and all operational services of the library, including administration.
December 2015 is not too far away and if any changes occur with the construction dates for the CHEB, we will communicate the new dates and adjust the moves into the CHEB accordingly.
This change is a golden opportunity for us to hear from you about how we will be able to serve you better in our two new locations. Watch for a survey, coming out in March, that will ask you more about library services.
