This February the Dal Libraries ran a special contest open to the whole Dal community: create a short video saying why you love the library and you could win a Kobo ereader. We received both video and text submissions and had a lot of fun watching and reading them. A great big THANK YOU to all the students who contributed! And now, without further ado–
First Prize: Alexander Somerville, “It’s the Collection!”
Second Place: Leah Brisco, “A Library Heritage Moment”

Third Place: Cameron McKay, “Book Parade”

LOVE NOTES
Anita Neumann, International Development Studies & Spanish
The comforting smell of old book friends fills the air
As I sit and ponder
Feeding my mind delicate morsels of knowledge.
The library is my place of solace
Where I can slip into an alternate reality
Each book being a portal.
Each shelf contributing to the maze.
Isabella Marble, History
I love the library because it always has contests going on to win cool stuff!

Library Reveries
Here the minds of intellects intertwine
With ideas forming, ripening with time
Only the clack of keys, keep quiet please
Try and avoid those library fees
Light streaming from the glass ceiling
Shedding light on the frustrations students are feeling
Brilliance is revealed to those who seek
Assignments are finished, due since last week
Shy smiles exchanged in such a vulnerable state
Remarkably compelling, the furrowed lines of concentrate
Help available with a click of the mouse
Search for a book in the comfort of your house
Java served graciously with a smile
Sure to keep you going for a while
Don’t wait too late, or it’s sure to be
Everyone else has claimed your seat
For this place of sanction too sacred to retell
Only you can experience its majestic spell

I love my library because everyone who works there is so helpful. In particular, the people at the reference desk been so wonderful, from me helping find resources, to teaching me different search methods, to showing me how to use refworks. Thank you to everyone at the reference desk especially Michelle Paon.
