Over the next few weeks, students of SOSA 4400 (Sociology/Social Anthropology majors) will be conducting participant-observation in the Killam library (i.e., observing student activities in the library as they themselves use the library). This is the first phase in a socio-ethnographic study of students in the Killam environment that this class will continue in the winter semester.
This observation exercise will not be intrusive – conversations will not be monitored, nor will the actions of particular individuals. Student observers will direct their attention toward general characteristics and conditions such as characteristics of users, types of activities, duration of usage, interaction patterns, and traffic flows.
If you have any questions, you may contact Linda Bedwell, Killam librarian.
