Have you ever had a link to an ejournal article that worked when you created it but wouldn’t work when you wanted to use it again? That’s because the URL was not “persistent” or “durable.” A persistent URL uses an intermediary link to locate the desired resource. The location of the article may change, however, your persistent link will continue to find the resource. A persistent URL can be embedded in your course syllabi, bibliographies and anywhere else where a stable link is required.
The Dal Libraries offers two brief onlne tutorials to explain what persistent URLs are and how to make a persistent URL.
What is a Persistent URL? (2:31)
How to Make a Persistent URL (3:42)
Note: The instructions in this tutorial must be followed exactly to ensure the URL will continue to work with Dalhousie Libraries’ Proxy Server.
