YA Hotline Preview: Steven Sanders, Comic Book Artist
Running a teen program? Imagine a world in which your teens could take existing comic book characters, create their own stories, and then share them without having to worry about restrictive copyright regulations. Now imagine that world is 1940s era bio-punk.
You can stop imagining, because that world is about to come to fruition. Steven Sanders is a comic book artist who has worked with Marvel and Image Comics. His next project, Symbiosis, is a Creative Commons licensed, Kickstarter funded, world-building art book. The story-telling is loose, and told mostly through the artwork. The rest of the story is up to the user: to create, to tell, to share–all through creative commons licensing.
Steven Sanders will be talking about his project and Creative Commons licensing in the upcoming Remix and Mashup issue of the YA Hotline.
For more information, check out the Symbiosis Kickstarter Page or Steven Sanders’ personal website.
Vivian Howard has been invited to join the National Reading Campaign
Over the past four years, hundreds of Canadians — readers, educators, librarians, publishers, parents, and writers from every part of the country — met at a series of three National Reading Summits to create a National Reading Plan. The National Reading Plan addresses ways to ensure that all Canadians — regardless of age, background, income level, level of education, or location — have access to reading of all kinds and in all platforms. The National Reading Campaign will begin the work of putting this exciting and challenging plan into place from coast to coast. Vivian Howard has been invited to join the National Reading Campaign as Atlantic Canadian representative on the Campaign Outreach Committee. The focus of the National Reading Campaign fits well with Dr. Howard’s research interests into the role of pleasure reading for diverse groups.
