For the purpose of accurate information dissemination, I would like to direct all members of the SIM community to the official Dalhousie Negotiations Blog, and particularly this post about potential class cancellations in the event of a strike by the Dalhousie Faculty Association.
The importance of the thank you email
This article discusses the importance of sending a thank you email after you have been interviewed for a position. The author writes “Lately, the majority of people I interview have one thing in common. They’re all messing up on something that I think is very important when trying to get a job: the Thank You Email.” This comment applies more generally to the importance of thanking people who have provided you with assistance, be they professors, colleagues, potential employers, mentors, and so forth. It doesn’t take long to write a thank you note, and the effort is certainly appreciated by the recipient. Thank you notes are part of professional behaviour and courtesy; even if it’s part of someone’s job to help you with your queries, it’s still polite and professional to thank them. Ensure, however, that you do not provide a pro forma thank you, i.e., one that reads like a form letter, as these can be perceived as meaningless; rather, ensure that your note acknowledges the nature of the assistance.
Consulting Librarian – Elections Nova Scotia
Elections Nova Scotia is the independent, non-partisan agency responsible for conducting provincial elections in Nova Scotia.
ENS has a small library of election related materials which need cataloguing. As well, ENS requires advice regarding the design of an acquisition program to enhance the utility of the library to staff and scholars.
ENS aims to have the organization of the library completed by March 31st and to establish a consulting relationship with a professional who could guide the growth of the library over the next two-three years.
