We are pleased to announce that SIM professor, Dr. Mike Smit, has been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor with tenure, effective July 1st, 2016! In the words of Dalhousie President, Richard Florizone, “the granting of tenure is tangible recognition of the excellence of [a faculty member’s] work”. Mike’s background is in computer science, and he studies the intersection of people, information, and technology. He is our resident big data and data literacy expert, and is also the co-director of SHAD Dalhousie, a residential program for exceptional high school students. Congrats Mike!
In
other news, two other SIM faculty members will be taking well-deserved breaks from their teaching and administrative duties, also as of July 1st: Dr. Bertrum MacDonald will be on a 12 month sabbatical, and Dr. Vivian Howard will be on a 6 month administrative leave. We wish them both the best and look forward to welcoming them back.
