Let me first introduce myself – my name is Gillian and I am a member of a research team from the College of Kinesiology, University of Saskatchewan, Canada and the School of Human Sciences, University of Northern Colorado, USA. We are emailing you to ask for your help in getting the word out about our research study on barriers to physical activity in transgender adults.
We are doing a study to identify the most common and challenging barriers that transgender adults report to being physically active. We are interested in this topic because over 1 in 2 transgender adults are not active at the level needed to get health benefits. Unfortunately, no research has been done to identify barriers to activity among this underserved population.
Our research will identify the most frequently reported and challenging barriers to being active. We need to know this before effective interventions can be designed to help transgender adults be more active. Such interventions could help transgender adults learn effective strategies to cope with their most challenging barriers.
We hope that around 85 transgender adults will volunteer to do a 15-20 minute online survey. They can do this survey at any time and at any computer of their choosing. We will make sure that participants are never identified when we present our study findings.
If you need additional information or have questions about our research, please respond to this email or contact the lead investigator, Dr. Nancy Gyurcsik, by email (nancy.gyurcsik@usask.ca) or telephone (306 966-1075). Please note that our research has received human ethics approval from the University of Saskatchewan Behavioural Research Ethics Board (BEH 15-364) on December 3, 2015.
