The Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) Board has decided to sponsor one travel scholarship to support a graduate student or early career researcher to attend the SPARC OpenCon 2014 event in Washington DC from November 15-17, 2014. The event is intended to inspire the next generation of scholars to change how research outputs are shared through open access, open data and open educational resources.
The travel scholarship, valued at $1,500 USD, will provide the successful candidate funds to put toward registration fees, flight and hotel (shared accommodation). Some but not all meals will be provided by the conference organizers.
In return, CARL asks that the successful individual produce a very short (800-1,000 word) report on what they learned, with some focus placed on how we can better support open access here in Canada. Some content might be used by CARL on our web site and/or on materials produced in association with Open Access Week.
Please direct all interested candidates to the application form available at: www.opencon2014.org/carl . The deadline for applications isSeptember 26. A small subgroup of the board (led by Vivian Lewis) will review the applications and select the successful candidate. The successful candidate will be informed by October 3, 2014.
