One of the School’s strong supporters for its foundation and in its early years, before her untimely death, was Provincial Librarian, and Past President of the Canadian Library Association (CLA. 1957/1958), Alberta Letts. Dalhousie University recognized Ms. Letts’ contribution by establishing the Alberta Letts Travel Award to enable MLIS students to attend the annual CLA Conference.

This year the, CLA National Conference and Trade Show will be held in Victoria BC. SIM will provide one student with opportunity to attend the conference (May 28-31, 2014).

Eligibility

• Open to MLIS students – full-time or part-time, returning and graduating.
• Provide proof that they are a member in good standing of CLA (& a CLA student chapter member)
• Be able to attend the entire conference (May 28 – 31, 2014)

Prize

• Airfare, hotel & registration (to a maximum of $1000.00).
• Reimbursement made only upon receipt submission by June 14, 2014.

Requirement

The award winner will submit a brief article about his/her CLA Conference experience for publication in the SIM Inform Newsletter. Embedded multimedia items are welcomed & encouraged.

Application Procedure

Applicants must submit a 200-250 word statement explaining why attendance at the CLA conference is a “must” for an MLIS student, and why this opportunity should be offered to them.
