First of all, thank you to everyone who came out to the Professional Mentorship Program Launch on October 17th! The event was a success and it was great to see so many of you there.
This is the first of our monthly bulletins for the PMP. In our bulletins, we’ll be posting some activity ideas for mentor/mentee meetings, notifications of upcoming events that PMP partners can attend together, reminders of upcoming professional development opportunities for students, and other topics.
Meeting with your PMP partner:
We hope that you have all had a chance to meet and converse with your mentor or mentee! If you haven’t set a first meeting yet, consider having a conversation over Skype or coffee. Take the opportunity to get to know each other – what your partner does for work or what they are studying, where they are from, how they came to their current career choice, and so forth. We know that everyone who signed up for the program has something interesting to share, so we encourage you to take the time to get to know more about your partner.
Upcoming events:
Mentors and mentees, keep an eye on the SIM events calendar for upcoming events of interest! For example, SIM occasionally hosts public lectures that are great to attend together. None are currently scheduled for the near future, but we’ll list these events in subsequent bulletins whenever possible.
For students, there are two upcoming Personal/Professional Development sessions that we strongly encourage you to attend:
- Resumes – October 29th, 2:30-4:00 in Rowe 3089
- LinkedIn – November 5th, 2:30-4:00 in Rowe 3089
These sessions are put on by Management Career Services and are a valuable opportunity to build on your professional skills.
Once again, we’d like to encourage all participants to get in touch with the Dalhousie CLA Student Chapter (contact information below) with any questions. We would love to hear your suggestions for the program or if you have any topics or events that you would like us to include in our next bulletin.
Thanks and have a great week!
