STUDENT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY – NOVANET LIVE HELP (Three positions)
The Novanet consortium has three openings for student assistants to work on our Live Help virtual reference service. We are looking to hire three students (or recent graduates), each of whom will cover three Live Help shifts per week, with each shift lasting two hours, for a total of six hours work per week.
It is expected the shifts covered by these positions will likely be scheduled some time in the evenings during the week (Monday to Thursday evenings), plus Sunday evenings. These shifts can be done from home, provided you have a reliable internet connection on your home computer.
Live Help is a virtual chat reference service that covers all the Novanet institutions in the province. Chat is provided from a personal computer, and the providers can expect to answer reference questions coming from any of these institutions using instant messaging software.
These positions are open to current students in the Dalhousie School of Information Management program or the NSCC Library and Information Technology program, or recent graduates (within one year). Previous experience or training in reference service is essential. The ability to search academic databases is vital, as is the ability to multitask and work under pressure, as these shifts can sometimes get busy.
Live Help service operates from September 19th to December 4th, starting up again in the first week of January 2012 and continuing into early April.
Students will be compensated at a rate of $15/hour.
Interested persons should prepare a resume and cover letter that includes their availability during the following Live Help shifts: 4pm to 6pm; 6pm to 8pm; and 8pm to 10pm, on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday. These should be submitted electronically as a single attachment to:

Deadline for applications is 5pm on September 7th. Training will take place the week of September 12thas needed.
