Your Brand On Dalhousie Campus

“How do we get the attention of today’s young people?”

This is a common question among our employer partners. If you would like to further engage with our student population, Management Career Services offers a variety of ways to share your employment opportunities and extend your recruitment efforts on Dalhousie campus…. all at no cost to you!

Information / Recruiting Sessions

Target students from Dalhousie’s Faculty of Management programs by hosting an information / recruiting session in the Kenneth C. Rowe Management Building. The majority of employers host information sessions in the months of September and January, however this service is available to you year round. Share career opportunities within your organization and recruit top talent at no cost to you. Management Career Services will take care of the details, including attracting students to your session via our online events calendar and our weekly student newsletter. Contact mcs@dal.ca to start the planning process.

Advertise In Our Building

Want even more attention? Promote your event and/or opportunity by sending us 10-15 posters and we’ll be happy to post your print advertisement in busy areas throughout our building. We recommend print advertisements be colorful with limited text. Posters should not exceed 8.5 x 17”. Posters can be sent to:

We also offer employers to post electronic advertisements on our 7 x 10 foot video wall which overlooks the main atrium of the Kenneth C. Rowe Management Building. Electronic advertisements should be sent as a JPEG formatted to 768 x 1366 pixels. For optimal presentation we recommend advertisements be designed in landscape. We are also able to play promotional videos from Youtube, however please note that videos are played with no sound. Please send any advertisment submissions for the video wall to Amy.McLellan@dal.ca

Advertise Through Social Media

Management Career Services is extremely engaged with students and alumni through our social media outlets, which includes Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Youtube and our Blog. To increase our social media connections and further extend career development opportunities, we are happy to ‘like’ your business’s social media page and/or group. In Their InBox

To decreased the amount of email directed to our students, Management Career Services captures all career development opportunities and events in our weekly ebulletin. Our ebulletin is sent to all students, staff and faculty and has become a centralized hub of news, information and resources. If you would like to have your content (related to career development) included in our ebulletin, we welcome you to send information to Amy.McLellan@dal.ca. The weekly ebulletin is sent every Wednesday afternoon, therefore content must be recieved by Tuesday afternoon.

Spotlight: Paige Moult

This past summer 2nd year Commerce student, Paige Moult was 1 of 2 winners from the MCS ‘Fill It To Win It’ contest.  Being one of the first students to secure their fall co-op position PLUS winning a $100 gift card to the Halifax Shopping Centre certainly put a smile on Paige’s face!

 

Paige is currently completing her co-op work term at Renegade Petroleum in Calgary, Alberta. She found the position by tapping into her network and making contact early in the summer term. “I’m glad I secured a job placement early so I was able to focus my full attention on school work and final assignments without the added stress of job searching.”

Employer Spotlight: Mike Kerwin

Mike Kerwin is an Associate Director at Procter & Gamble (P&G) and is a participant in Dalhousie’s National Mentoring Program (NMP).

Although P&G regularly sources talent from Dalhousie’s Faculty of Management to fulfill co-op work terms and full-time employment opportunities;   Through the NMP, P&G compensates a business student so that they may work at a charitable organization during the summer months. P&G has funded Dal students to work at charitable organizations including Junior Achievement and Kids Help Phone .

Staying connected to their investment, Mike personally mentors Dalhousie students through the summer work term. The mentoring component allows students to gain contacts, experience and expertise from both the corporate and not-for-profit industries.

Employer Spotlight: Satpal Bamrah – Target Canada

Satpal Bamrah, is a recent Dalhousie Commerce Graduate who has been working at Target Canada as a Business Analyst for the past 6 months.

“I love Target. I am extremely happy to be part of the team working to grow the Target Corporation across Canada. It can be challenging role with a fair amount of ambiguity, (as any startup would) but it has an amazing corporate culture. I would recommend other Dalhousie students and graduates to consider Target Canada as a prospective employer.”

Halifax Career Fair

The Halifax Career Fair connects over 150 businesses and organizations, (from Fortune 500 companies to Government agencies) to the 1,200 students who attend each year.  Attending the Halifax Career Fair will provide insight to prospective employment and career opportunities, allow you to gain additional insider advice about competing in the job market, as well as allow you to connect with recruiting representatives looking to hire you!

Employer Spotlight: Chris Gott

Chris Gott is a recent Commerce Graduate who is currently working full-time at Procter & Gamble (P&G) in Customer Business Development.

“P&G has been a fun and challenging place to work. You’re accountable for your results and you’re given significant responsibility from day one. My advice to students looking for jobs – whether it be co-op, an internship or a full-time job after graduation – is to get attend events and activities outside the classroom. Employer Information Sessions is a great way to learn about prospective career paths and meet potential employers.”

Finance Recruiting Event: Super Wednesday

Looking to identify talent from Dalhousie’s graduating finance students? Join us on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 for Super Wednesday, where employers will have the opportunity to identify talent from over 40 graduating finance students.

Join us on campus to meet, network and interview marketing talent from Dalhousie’s Commerce, Management and MBA programs – all available for hire in May, 2013.

Who Can Participate?

Employers who are interested in meeting, networking, or hiring graduates with career interests in finance are encouraged to attend our Super Wednesday event.

Your Participation

Participating employers will have access to all student participants through a number of  avenues, including:

  • A copy of the Finance Class of 2013 Resume Booklet – highlighting the resumes and profiles of all participating students.
  • Pitch Presentation – watch live 60-second elevator pitches from each participating student.
  • Networking – Assess first impressions during our networking luncheon with students, staff and other employers.
  • 1:1 Interviews – select individual interviews with students you’ve identified as quality talent.

Participating employers will have the exclusive opportunity to promote their business on campus:

  • Your Brand on Campus – Logo placement on the Management Career Services website and all associated marketing materials.
  • Pitch Presentation – Recieve 5 minutes to pitch your business associated career paths to a room of graduating marketing students.
  • Exclusivity to Students – Participating students will be notified of your  job opportunities directly through email.

Event Cost

Evan Price – A Winning Venture

Evan Price has had great success from completing an entrepreneurial work term to his career after graduation as VP Finance and Operations. “For my 3rd work term in the Commerce program I did an entrepreneurial venture starting the largest beer hops farm in NS, FiddleHop Farm.ca. In September we harvested hops that were used by Garrison to make their 3 Fields Ale, on sale now!” 

“Also, as a Finance major, in May I was elected as VP Finance and Operations for the DSU. To help others start businesses we have created a collaborative business incubator called Sandbox, in the SUB. We’ll be running a Friday speaker series called Bigger Pitcher in the Grawood to discuss entrepreneurial problems start ups face.
