Karen Neves Leaves Dalhousie Libraries

Karen Neves, who has been the library liaison for the College of Pharmacy, Undergraduate and Postgraduate Medicine, has moved on to new career opportunities. Karen led the development of the library guides that serve both the medicine and pharmacy curriculums and has played a very progressive and vital role in developing Kellogg Library services. We will miss her and we wish her well!

We have had approval to replace Karen, and a new position has been posted.

Lexi-Comp Interface to Change

On Monday, March 26, 2012 the interface for both Lexi-Comp Online with AHFS (Medicine) and Lexi-Comp Online for Dentistry will change. The new versions offer new functionality, advanced searching capabilities and faster and easier access to clinical content. A link to the old version will remain until June 2012. For more information on the new interface, you may view Lexi-Comp’s short video.

The American Heart Association has begun publishing a new journal called Journal of the American Heart Association (ISSN 2047-9980). This is an open access, peer reviewed journal which will be widley indexed.

Best Practice Replaces BMJ PointofCare

The Kellogg Library’s subscription to BMJ PointofCare will end on December 31, 2011. In its place we offer the North American edition of this product called Best Practice. Also produced by the BMJ Publishing Group, Best Practice offers evidence-based information on diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and prevention for use at the point of care.

The Kellogg Library has just added 3480 new records to Novanet for recent ebooks in the Canadian Health Research collection and the Canadian Public Policy collection of the Canadian Electronic Library.

All the books in these collections can be searched in Novanet or on the ebrary platform.

The Kellogg Library has acquired the ASM Medical Materials Database.

The ASM Medical Materials Database is the only comprehensive, peer-reviewed database providing a single source for materials data to support medical device design. The database features both materials properties and biological response data for medical device designers. It offers an authoritative set of mechanical, physical, biological response, and drug compatibility properties for the materials and coatings used in Cardiovascular and Orthopaedic medical devices.

Are you a member of the Dalhousie community with a Dal NetID? Have you had trouble connecting to the thousands of ejournals licensed by Dalhousie Libraries via PubMed? If so, you should be using the Dal Libraries customized version of PubMed instead of the free, generic version of this database.

The Getit@Dal button in PubMed connects you directly with the full text of articles, but to see it you must use the Dal Libraries customized version of PubMed available from the Libraries’ webpages. This button (found at the abstract level of citations) will link you to the full text of any article available electronically. If the electronic full text is not available, you’ll be given the option of checking our online catalogue to see if the article is in our print collection. If it’s not there either, you can order it using our free document delivery service.
