Katie Haigh is an Undergraduate Academic Advising Officer in the Faculty of Management at Dalhousie. Katie graduated from the Bachelor of Commerce program in 2006 and most recently from Dalhousie with a Master of Public Administration. Katie has been working at Dalhousie for almost twenty years and has been a part of the Undergraduate Advising Office for fourteen. Her goal with all her advisees is to make them feel welcome, heard and to help them discover their best path forward.

Q and A: Valedictorian Shamir Hutcheson (Class of ’21)
Shamir Hutcheson is the valedictorian for the Bachelor of Commerce Class of 2021 for our fall graduation celebrations. Shamir grew up on the island of Grand Bahama in the city of Freeport. At twenty-one she moved to Marietta, Georgia to do her associates degree in communications. Shamir lived in Marietta for two years and after she graduated with her associates degree, she moved to Halifax to pursue her Bachelor of Commerce degree at Dalhousie.

Spotlight: Judith Maxwell (Class of ’63)
Since graduating from Dalhousie’s Bachelor of Commerce program in 1963 Judith Maxwell has had a long and prestigious career dedicating her professional life to the field of economics. Judith’s work has contributed significantly to public policy, and she has continued her work helping the community with her company Synapcity.
Spotlight: Etse Kassa (Class of ’13)
Etse Kassa knew that work experience would be key to her success in transitioning from her undergraduate degree to a career. Dalhousie’s co-op program was one of the main factors that lead her to choose the Dalhousie Bachelor of Commerce degree. Her decision paid off as her first employer post-graduation was impressed by the variety of experience she acquired during her co-ops.

Alifa Jamal graduated from the Bachelor of Commerce program in 2018 where she majored in Marketing Management. Alifa is currently working at Ada as a Digital Marketing Specialist.

Upon Graduating from Dalhousie in 2019 with a major in Finance, Ottawa native Kat Keough decided to take the opportunity to travel. For six months she backpacked around Europe until landing a job in London, England with an emerging Fintech company called OpenGamma.

Kosta Georgakakos was born and raised in Halifax and came from your stereotypical big fat Greek family. His grandmother and her seven brothers all opened restaurants, so it was not uncommon to find him in the back of their kitchens’, cutting fries at the age of 12.
