Hello, my name is Terrance LeBlanc and I am a second year MLIS student currently doing an internship at the Dalhousie Archives as an archives assistant. Since my background is in history, I can’t think of a more ideal setting to work in than archives.
At the present moment, I am appraising and processing the Movement for Citizens Voice and Action (M.O.V.E.) fonds in order to create a finding aid for future archival research. M.O.V.E. was a coalition of community groups in the Halifax-Dartmouth area during the 1970s. The groups represented all sorts of different causes from housing projects to poverty, equal rights, unemployment, to name a few. M.O.V.E. provided assistance to these groups and their cause by voicing their frustrations to various sectors of government, as well as providing access to resources such as materials and staffing.
This group is of particular interest to me as I cannot help but agree with their stance. Perhaps this is because I’ve been so immersed in the operation of M.O.V.E. I’m even having dreams about it!
There are 42 boxes of material in the M.O.V.E. collection. As with many other fonds I have worked on so far, I have the privilege of becoming exposed to the detailed history of past organizations, and the lives of people relevant to our local history.
