Daycare Travel Planning: A Study of Parents’ Travel Patterns
Hi Everyone,
My name is Caroline King. I am a Masters of Planning Studies student here at Dalhousie University. I am also facilitator for the Ecology Action Centre’s Tiny Travel Planning program, Transportation Officer for Dalhousie’s Office of Sustainability, Student Researcher at DalTRAC, and Director of Membership for the Halifax Cycling Coalition.
I am currently working on creating a daycare travel planning program to investigate travel patterns and determine transportation barriers for parents with children between the ages of 18 months and 5 years. I thought I would share the latest poster for the proposal of this research. If you have any comments or feedback on my project, I would love to hear it.

Complete Street Policies are laws, resolutions, executive orders, policies and planning and design documents that encourage and provide safe access to destinations for everyone, regardless of age, ability, income, ethnicity or how they travel.
SWITCH NEEDS VOLUNTEERS!
Hello Switch Fans,
We had a good meeting on Tuesday discussing how to build more greater public and institutional support for Switch.
One of the immediate actions to support the Switch Open Street Sundays : Bike Week project planned for June 9 is to mobilize volunteers for this Thursday evening from 6:00-730PM for route canvassing.
Although, we demonstrated substantial public support for Switch last year and we have made some in-roads in simplifying the process moving forward by getting Switch in the Regional and Active Transportation Plans as well as a forthcoming Road Closure Policy this will not change things substantively this year. We will still need to go out this year and get signatures from people who live on the route. On thursday evening we will be asking for signatures for our two 2013 events on the Agricola/Bell/South Park corridor.
We will meet at 6PM Thursday April 4th at Agricola and Cunard to divided up the route canvassing. We will work in groups of two and will have a standard message for people to deliver. We had roughly 95% approval of people we talked to last year so it should be pretty straightforward. I will have the materials printed off and we will look to drop something in their mailboxes in advance early this week. Bring a clipboard if you have one.

DalTRAC to engage the Municipality of the District of Chester on ‘Share the Road’
Two students working for DalTRAC, Mateja and Kelsey, will be going to the Municipality of the District of Chester on April 4th to hold a community engagement session about ‘Share the Road’. The workshop will be divided into two parts. The first part will focus on how road safety can be improved in the local community. The second part will focus on generating ideas for a ‘Share the Road’ awareness campaign for the local community. Participants will be asked to discuss their opinions regarding which media and/or slogans will be effective in spreading the campaign message to the community. DalTRAC is excited about this opportunity to engage the community and gain valuable insights to help in the development of an effective ‘Share the Road’ campaign for the Province of Nova Scotia. Chaotic Moon, a Texas-based mobile studio, recently created a helmet that can tell cyclists’ stories for them. The helmet contains seven mini-cameras that will provide a 360-degree view of an accident as it happens. Could these helmets be the future of bike collision data collection & research?
