Victoria Wight is a second year Commerce student who participated in the 2014 Toronto Corporate Tour, last April. During summer 2014, she worked at D+H, a financial technology company, on its Canadian Marketing Team. She is now completing her first co-op term in audit, at PwC, in Toronto.
“After hearing about the Toronto Corporate Tour in my Business Communications class, I was eager to sign up. When finishing up first year, I was confused about what I might want to do for my first co-op work term. I knew that I had an interest in accounting. I thought that by signing up for the accounting stream of the Corporate Tour, it would give me a chance to learn more about the industry.
Through the Corporate Tour I was able to practice and enhance my networking and interview skills. The first day we presented elevator pitches for multiple employers, followed by a mock interview. Through this experience I was able to receive feedback on the weaknesses and strengths of my elevator pitch and interview skills. The whole event was a great way to develop my networking skills and expand my own network.
My favourite part of the trip was the panel of industry professionals and the networking session that followed. During the panel, we were able to listen to professionals who work in a diverse range of industries. Following the panel we were able to network with the panelist and other industry professionals. I found this time extremely helpful to really ask questions and learn more about what I might want to do for my co-op work terms and in the future.
The Corporate Tour is an incredible experience that Management Career Services offers to students. For students who might be intimidated to sign-up for the Corporate Tour, it is a great opportunity for exposure to the business world, networking and learning more about various industries. I was nervous about going out on the tour, but I took the tour as an opportunity to come out of my shell and try something new. It was one of the most beneficial things I did, in my first year of university.”
Registration is now open for the Toronto Corporate Tour. Do not miss out on this opportunity!
Pushng your limits to go outside your comfort zone is the best way to grow. Congratulations
