Each year Dalhousie’s Management Career Services (MCS) sends over 630 students on work terms with employer partners across Canada and internationally. Concluding the work term we ask each student, “Would you like to nominate your employer for an appreciation award?” Nominations are plentiful and many responses clearly identify their employer’s contributions to personal career development. After reviewing all nominations, MCS determines the organization worthy of receiving the 2012 Employer of the Year Award. We are proud to announce Nova Scotia Business Incorporated (NSBI) as this year’s recipient.
Third year Commerce student, Daniel Bartek speaks about his work term experience at NSBI, “Being a co-op student at NSBI served as an excellent learning environment where I was able to grow my skills and professional experiences through the quality of work and level of responsibility. Although I made many connections at NSBI, it was the outstanding mentorship and guidance from my supervisor, Bruce Cameron that I value most. His forthcoming advice on business financial activities is insight I will often refer to as I pursue my career endeavors.”
NSBI has been an employer partner with Dalhousie University for over 7 years. During this time, NSBI has extended 44 employment opportunities to students in both the Commerce and the Corporate Residency MBA programs, (averaging 6 positions per year). Students have sought various employment opportunities with NSBI including marketing, accounting, international business and finance positions. Recognizing NSBI’s engagement beyond the job postings was the influential factor when determining the 2012 Employer of the Year recipient. NSBI continues to lend to student’s career development by participating in on-campus activities, such as interviewing competitions and guest lectures.
Vice President of NSBI, Lisa Bugden speaks to the value of recruiting talent from Dalhousie University, “NSBI views co-op as an on ramp to future career opportunities. We are confident in the quality of Dalhousie’s academic programs because we continue to benefit from the analytical thinking, creativity and professionalism found in Dalhousie student employees. When we hire talent from Dalhousie, our objective is to retain these employees to return to work at NSBI after graduation.”
Dalhousie’s Management Career Services would like to thank Nova Scotia Business Incorporated for their ongoing support of the co-op program and overall student career development. Congratulations for being our 2012 Employer of the Year!
