Happy Halloween!
The idea of “trick or treat” has been with us for centuries, but in our current reality, the emphasis has been on the “treat” aspect, as evidenced by the burgeoning shelves of candies welcoming consumers the last few weeks of October.
At the stroke of midnight, CFAME Connection is entering YEAR 2. And speaking of treats – there are many in store in the coming months beginning on November 1, 2017 with Dr. Louise Spiteri’s column, Information that Matters.

As Academic Director, Master of Information Management, Dalhousie University, Dr. Spiteri teaches courses in records and information management, knowledge management, and the organization of information. Her ideas and approach to the discussion of information management are fresh, exciting and innovative.
Very few of us understand the mechanics behind metadata, tagging, semantic technology etc. We engage in social media activity without having any understanding of the subtle (and not so subtle) influence of information management systems on our everyday lives. How do we manage information resources, including items we read, watch, and listen to? How do we label these resources for future recovery; what attributes do we describe; how do these attributes (e.g., emotions) differ from the attributes described by professional indexers and information managers? How do social media applications help create communities of interest and social spaces?
Dr. Spiteri’s insight will enhance our vision of building a virtual community that thrives on knowledge exchange.
