Prior to starting his 2nd year in the Dalhousie Commerce program, Ben signed up for the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP) which led to a full-time summer position at the Canadian Federal agency, Environment Canada.
Ben obviously made a good impression. His summer job was extended into a part-time role when it was time to return to school. It was difficult juggling academics, the varsity hockey team and his part-time job … but the hard work has paid off! By making connections and proving his work ethic, Environment Canada created a position for Ben so that he could continue working with Environment Canada during his Co-op work term.
“My recommendation for students looking for a co-op job would be to tell everyone you know, (and encourage them to tell everyone THEY know) that you are looking for temporary work. The opportunities are out there, you just have to utilize your network (or apply to programs like FSWEP) to find them…”
