Originally from Newmarket, Ontario, Maggie McColl recently completed the Bachelor of Commerce Co-op program with a major in Marketing and a certificate in Entrepreneurship & Innovation. “I knew I wanted to explore different paths and gain hands-on experience early on.” Her curiosity has since grown into a clear interest in marketing, partnerships, and event-based work, particularly in the sports industry where creativity and audience engagement meet in real time.
Across her three co-ops, Maggie explored different sides of business. Her first role at RBC introduced her to financial investigations and operations, while her second work term at EllisDon shifted into business development and proposal marketing. By the time she began her final work term with Roadstone Ltd. in Dublin, Ireland, she was stepping into an entirely new environment and a much more independent role. Learning to navigate a new country, workplace, and pace of life on her own pushed her to become more independent, more resilient, and more confident in how she approaches challenges. It also gave her a broader perspective on how business and marketing operate across cultures, from work styles and team dynamics to work-life balance.
During her time in Dublin, Maggie was promoted from a Marketing Intern to Lead Digital Marketing Coordinator, stepping into more responsibility and decision-making earlier than expected. “At first, I wasn’t sure if I was ready, but taking that step taught me that growth often comes from putting yourself in situations where you feel slightly uncomfortable.” What began as a challenge became one of the most defining lessons of her co-op experience, reinforcing the value of trusting herself, asking questions, and staying open to feedback.
Outside of her work terms, Maggie has consistently pursued opportunities that reflect the same energy she brings to her work. Through roles with the Dalhousie Women in Business Association, Dalhousie Marketing Association, Halifax Thunderbirds, Halifax Mooseheads, and the Dalhousie Football Club, she built experience in fast-paced, people-focused environments where marketing, events, and community intersect. “Leadership doesn’t always mean having a title. It often comes from being willing to take responsibility and contribute where it matters most.” Balancing those roles taught her how to communicate clearly and step up when needed.
That same mindset shaped her approach to the job search. For students interested in working abroad, Maggie’s advice is simple: stay proactive and stay curious. “Reach out to people, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to take a chance on something unfamiliar.” Working in another country, she learned, is one of the most rewarding ways to grow both personally and professionally.
Maggie has secured a post-grad role with Hockey Canada as a Partnership Coordinator, where she’ll continue building a career in partnerships, brand activations, and live events.
