Originally from China, Pengpeng Jiang is a 3rd year Bachelor of Commerce student, majoring in Accounting. She is currently doing her second co-op with Scotiabank as a Customer Representative. Last summer, Pengpeng participated in the Workplace Experience Program (WEP) and spent eight days with McInnes Cooper where she gained exposure to various business areas including Accounting, Business Development, Business Services, and Professional Development.
“I highly recommend the WEP program to international students, especially those who don’t have any previous work experience. It is a great way to connect with a potential employer, practice networking skills, learn about different business functions, and discover your own career path. Remember that it is important to keep in touch and build a long-term relationship with the people you met at the host organization. This will benefit you in the future.
Other than the WEP program, MCS also organizes many networking events, information sessions, workshops, competitions, etc. I found that being involved in various extra-curricular activities was extremely helpful for my career development. Last January, I participated in the Scotiabank “You’re Hired!” Interview Competition. I got to practice my interview skills and even secured a co-op with Scotiabank. So put yourself out there and seize every opportunity, you never know what amazing experience it may lead to.”
Are you an international student? Do you want to gain first-hand exposure to Canadian workplace culture? The Workplace Experience Program (WEP) is the perfect opportunity for you!
