After graduating from Dalhousie with a Master of Earth Science degree, I moved down to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, where I currently work at the Bluenose Coastal Action Foundation (known as ‘Coastal Action’). Coastal Action is a not-for-profit environmental organization, with the mission to restore and protect the environment through research, education, and action.
At Coastal Action, I am the Department Head of Water Quality and Watersheds, in addition to Coastal Action’s Water Quality Specialist. In our department, we conduct contract and research work to help agricultural lands include best-management practices, monitor water quality throughout several watersheds, conduct water and sediment monitoring in lakes, estuaries, and rivers, and restore and monitor wetlands. My job includes working with a wide range of wonderful people – from industry professionals to home-owner association volunteers, collecting water and sediment samples off boats, providing water quality advice for individuals, committees, and organizations, and working in the field rain or shine.
