Summer has arrived in Nova Scotia. Given the challenges of the past year, I hope that each of you finds some time to recharge over the coming months.
It was a joy to attend our graduation ceremonies through June. We joined virtually and acknowledged the hard work of each of our graduating students. We saw grandparents and children, listened to valedictory speeches, and made toasts to our graduates’ accomplishments.
I am already excited about next year. The Faculty has a new strategic plan, optimism about our ability to bring our community together in person, and confidence that graduates of our programs are making essential contributions in the seemingly ever more complex world.
So, as always, be in touch: Kim.Brooks@dal.ca I love hearing what you’re up to!
“I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work the more I live.”

From the Desk of Michelle Hunter:
The Dalhousie MBA Corporate Responsibility, Ethics and Society course invites companies to bring forth complex problems facing their organization into the classroom for students to research, evaluate and present potential social and economic solutions to the company. This is what is referred to as a live case study; a real-world issue for students to apply subject related academic concepts, theories and research coupled with their professional and personal experience that builds a solid case to be presented. I was fortunate to be invited to view the group presentations and was extremely impressed by the level of dedication, commitment, and knowledge the groups demonstrated. All the presentations were outstanding.

“Considering the societal grand challenge of climate change, more than ever business schools need to move away from focusing on our theory-fetish and move towards applied action-oriented approaches with students that enable a deep engagement between the university, students, organizations, and community. We face many challenges where there is no readily available solution, and it is the inter-weave of the diversity of perspectives that can creatively generate ideas that can be considered and prototyped to bring positive impacts on society and the planet. Our collaborations with the MBA students and Canada Post are excellent examples of a ‘deep engagement’ for sustainability-as-flourishing futures that think about real strategies for fairness, prosperity, and sustainability in the organizational-societal space.”
“True teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross; then, having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create their
own.”
