Originally from Gujarat, India, Yug Savani is a second-year Management student who’s passionate about business, networking, and personal growth. Having switched from Computer Science, he was drawn to Dal’s diverse business opportunities. “I chose Dal because it offered some great services, not only in business sectors but in other fields too.”
Through Management Career Services (MCS), Yug has participated in several professional development opportunities, from employer information sessions to large networking events such as Dal Business Networking Night. He was also a participant in the 2025 Toronto Corporate Tour. “Events like Dal Business Networking Night or the Toronto Corporate Tour have developed my communication skills at a great level,” he says. “The amount of networking that I have done at these events is mind boggling.”
Yug recommends that first-year students take advantage of the resources at their disposal. He feels that developing strong communication skills and the ability to network is important, especially early in one’s career. Yug also recommends that students complement classroom learning with networking as much as possible.
Beyond academics and professional development opportunities, Yug is deeply involved in several student societies. As an International Representative for the Dalhousie Management Society, he advocates for international students and helps plan events. He’s also a member of the Dalhousie Investment Society, where he’s learning about the investment world and collaborating with other societies such as the Dalhousie Real Estate Association to gain insight into that sector.
One of the most impactful experiences for Yug so far in his program was attending the Toronto Corporate Tour. “Toronto Corporate Tour was a life changing moment for me. You get to know past students who graduated from the Faculty of Management and what they are doing with their degree, and you connect with people who can truly help in your future.”
Looking ahead, Yug hopes to apply what he’s learned through his extracurricular involvement to his future career. He plans on pursuing an internship through the optional 8-month Management Internship program. “For this, I am going to reach out to MCS to seek more guidance and point me in the right direction.”
Yug’s journey is a reminder that the more you put yourself out there, the more opportunities you’ll find to learn, grow, and build the career you want.
