Ashley Sambrook is a fourth-year Bachelor of Commerce student, majoring in Managing People and Organizations. She also holds the title of President, Dalhousie Commerce Society. Being so involved with the Rowe School of Business, Ashley is very familiar with the events and activities presented by MCS.
“Since first year I have been actively taking advantage of opportunities offered by Management Career Services. I participated in the Toronto Corporate Tour during my first year. In my second year I participated in Halifax Corporate Tour and was a Communications and Special Projects Assistant at Management Career Services. During my time as a BComm student, I have also used MCS for cover letter reviews, resume reviews, information sessions, workshops, interview advice and I also participated in the You’re Hired interview competition.
For all first-year students, my biggest piece of advice is to be proactive. Be proactive by making sure your resume is top notch, learn all about different industries and companies, practice your elevator pitch…it all counts. Do not be the person struggling to get their first co-op during exams or even after. You have the support in place to succeed, so it’s your opportunity to take.”
Join Ashley and other students at the Industry Week student panel on Wednesday, November 23rd. Industry week is a great time for students to learn all about the different commerce major options and to understand what you might want to do in the future. Register on myCareer to ensure you don’t miss out on any of these great opportunities!
