Hailing from Burnaby, British Columbia, Devon Jennings-Lander is in her fourth year of the Management program majoring in Leadership and Organizations. Devon took part in the Halifax Corporate Tour last year along with a group other Rowe School of Business students, visiting companies around the city such as Bell Aliant, Extreme Group, RBC and Carbonstock. Through the corporate tour, Devon fostered connections with employers that eventually led to an internship with Bell Aliant.
“Going on the tour gave me a better sense of how the different parts of an organization interact, especially in the case of larger organizations such as Bell Aliant and RBC.
My first interaction with Bell Aliant was through the Corporate Tour. I did an information interview with one of the people we were introduced to on the tour, who then connected me with a recruiter, who later phoned me saying she had a job for me that she thought I would really enjoy. The corporate tour was in October, and by the end of February I had secured my internship position.
The Corporate Tour was a great experience. The day was fast paced, moving between all of the organizations, but it was well worth it. It is a great way to expand your network and to create potential job leads that you otherwise might not be able to outside of the tour.“
