Name: Laura Brothers
Major: MBA, a concentration in enterprise analytics
Career aspirations: a global consulting career, preferably in IT & Strategy consulting
Why were you interested in taking the Doing Business in Emerging Markets course?
I believe that today’s career paths are global ones and that my degree should include an international component that prepares me for this. Also, I’ve never had the opportunity to study China in depth and the whole culture is very foreign to me so I was excited to learn about and experience a new culture.
What do you expect to learn from your visit to China?
I hope to gain a completely new perspective on life and an appreciation for Chinese history. I’m especially interested to participate in the corporate tours. Coming from an MBA I’ve been prepared to do business in the Western world, but in China all the cultural norms and practices will be different, and this trip is an opportunity to learn these customs.
How do you think this experience will impact your future career?
I think any global experience teaches you a better understanding of people and what drives them. Understanding people is essential for a successful career and to be a good leader.
