Shelter Nova Scotia (SNS) has a unique networking and community involvement experience for students. We are looking for teams of students to participate in our 6th annual Sleep-Out Event on September 29th at Victoria Park in Halifax.
The goal of this event is to raise money and awareness for about homelessness and marginalization in Halifax so that we can work together as a society to shift the conversations and preconceptions the people we serve and the issues they face. This event is not camping or pretending to be homeless but about understanding the daily challenges that homeless people in our community face and how we can work together as a community to change these realities. It is a night of reflection and conversation.
To date 254 Haligonians (students included) have left the comfort of their own beds to sleep rough at this event. We would match student teams to local businesses (within relevant fields) to sponsor them in order to raise funds for the event. Students will be asked to raise a portion of the funds. Our Fundraising Specialist will work closely with the teams to aid in the fundraising component.
This event will allow the students to make important connections with relevant employers for when they are looking for summer or full-time jobs, and will help them stand-out from their competition by showing great initiative and an interest in improving their community.
