HeartWood Centre for Community Youth Development (www.heartwood.ns.ca) is looking for a Summer Social Media and Program Outreach Intern for a 14-week contract position starting on May 30, 2016 to August 26, 2016.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Social Media and Program Outreach Intern will contribute to HeartWood and its variety of programs by:

  • using social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc…) to engage with current and potential HeartWood participants, funders and sponsors
  • writing website copy and updates
  • creating templates and tools that will help disseminate important organizational information,
  • researching latest trends and news on relevant community youth development and engagement.
  • Supporting with the design, development and outreach of HeartWood programs and workshops
  • Taking part in the design, writing and sharing of the Annual Report and other program materials

Requirements:

  • Ability to take initiative and engage in active learning- specifically in regards to not-for-profit marketing and communications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • A working knowledge of computers and social media systems
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Candidate MUST currently be a full-time student returning to school full-time in the fall, be between the ages of 18 and 30, and be a Canadian citizen.
  • A Child Abuse Registry and Police Records Check will be required.

Assets:

  • Knowledge of HeartWood’s approach to working with youth (e.g. HeartWood’s Framework for Community Youth Development)
  • Experience with program development and delivery, public relations, business administration
  • Promotion or marketing skills/experience
  • Website or graphic design knowledge or experience
  • First Aid
  • Valid driver’s license
