The Strategic Cooperative Education Incentive (SCEI)
The Strategic Cooperative Education Incentive (SCEI) provides wage assistance to private sector, government-funded and non-profit organizations offering career related work experiences for university and community college co-operative students. For employers familiar with the program, please be advised that SCEI is now being administered by the Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education.
The deadline to apply for Term 3 (Winter 2016) is September 18, 2015. Employers must pay a minimum of $15 per hour plus 4% vacation pay. SCEI reimburses $7.50 per hour to a maximum of 40 hours per week. Employers participating in the Industrial Research Assistance Program and the Scientific Research & Experimental Development tax credit may be eligible to receive $7.50 per hour to a maximum of $10 per hour for positions offering the minimum hourly wage of $15 per hour or higher. Prior to submitting your application, you must complete the three mandatory steps outlined on the SCEI website, including co-op office approval of your job description. Currently, applications may be submitted online.
Graduate to Opportunity
In the wake of last month’s spring convocation, a fresh group of Dalhousie grads is ready to seize employment opportunities within Nova Scotia. The Graduate to Opportunity program (GTO) provides salary contributions to employers to offset the cost of hiring a recent graduate and assist post-secondary graduates find career opportunities in Nova Scotia. For employers familiar with this program, please be advised that Graduate to Opportunity is now being administered by the NovaScotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education. This provincially-operated program will enable you to grow your business by attracting Dalhousie’s best and brightest grads to your team, or retain proven talent by offering a Dalhousie co-op or internship student a full-time position upon graduation.
You can hire anyone who has completed a post-secondary program within the last year and will live and work in Nova Scotia. You qualify for this program if:
- You have fewer than 100 employees, or are a social enterprise, not-for-profit or registered charity.
- You are willing to pay at least $30,000 annually. Government will pay 25 per cent of the salary in year 1, and 12.5 per cent in Year 2.
